Grand Forks Masons Celebrate New Hall with Grand Dedication Event
On December 12, 1890, the Masonic fraternity in Grand Forks, North Dakota, celebrated the dedication of a lavish new hall located on the fourth floor of the Herald Block. This event, described as a “MASONIC BLOWOUT” by the local newspaper, the Grand Forks Herald, marked a significant milestone for the organization, showcasing a grand new space that is poised to enhance local Masonry.
The newly dedicated hall measures an impressive 35 by 60 feet, featuring refined decorations, plush furniture, and intricate frescoes. The dedication ceremony, attended by numerous members and guests, highlighted the hall’s remarkable design and amenities, which have drawn admiration from as far away as Angora and Tibet.
Guests were welcomed by the melodious sounds of Hall’s orchestra, setting a festive atmosphere as they arrived for the evening’s festivities. The event was meticulously organized, with every committee member dedicated to ensuring the comfort of attendees. Shortly after 21:00, the Worshipful Master, Topning, officially called the assembly to order, signifying the commencement of the evening’s proceedings.
During the ceremony, Chaplain W. T. Traub delivered a dedicatory speech, praising the hall’s design and the vision shared by the fraternity. The entire fourth floor of the Herald Block was utilized for this occasion, emphasizing the fraternity’s commitment to creating a welcoming space for its members.
Following the dedication, a grand ball and banquet hosted by Major Coleman of the Dacotah added to the evening’s festivities. The menu was reportedly exquisite, with several toasts made in honor of the new hall and the Masonic fraternity’s future.
With this new facility, the Grand Forks Masons have embraced a fresh chapter in their history, fostering camaraderie and community engagement. The hall is not only a testament to their dedication but also serves as a symbol of their growth and aspirations for years to come.
