Kiké Hernández Set to Break Dodgers’ Postseason Record in World Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers are poised to make history as they compete for back-to-back World Series championships, following a decisive sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series (NLCS). The Dodgers’ return to the World Series marks a significant achievement for the team, especially after standout performances, including an extraordinary showing from superstar Shohei Ohtani, who struck out ten batters and hit three home runs in Game 4 of the NLCS.
As the Dodgers gear up for their most crucial series of the year, one player is on the verge of breaking a longstanding franchise record. During a press conference prior to Game 4 of the NLCS, Kiké Hernández learned he would become the Los Angeles Dodgers’ all-time leader in postseason games played during the World Series.
Hernández Reflects on His Achievement
“It’s humbling and I feel fortunate. This is not just any franchise. This is the LA Dodgers,” Hernández stated. “They’ve been around for a long time, and they have a lot of history. For a guy like me from Puerto Rico, who has swum against the current my entire life, to be in this position is pretty special.”
The 34-year-old player emphasized that while he appreciates the recognition, he remains focused on the present. “I haven’t really wanted to reflect too much on it because there will be a time for that once I’m done playing. For now, I’m just focused on today,” he added. Hernández aims to match and surpass Justin Turner‘s record of 86 total postseason games, which he will achieve in Game 1 of the World Series.
Postseason Performance and Impact
Having spent nine seasons with the Dodgers, Hernández has reached the playoffs each year, solidifying his role within the franchise. His postseason statistics are impressive, currently boasting a batting line of .306/.375/.792, with four doubles and four runs batted in. As the Dodgers prepare to face their opponents in the World Series, Hernández aims to maintain his momentum and contribute to the team’s success.
The upcoming World Series represents not only a chance for the Dodgers to secure their place in baseball history but also an opportunity for Hernández to leave an indelible mark on the franchise. As the October 27, 2023, game approaches, all eyes will be on this pivotal moment in Dodgers history, particularly with Hernández poised to etch his name alongside the greats of the organization.
