Ruth E. Martin, Pioneering Letter Carrier, Passes Away at 75

Ruth E. Martin, a prominent figure in Pembroke, New Hampshire, passed away on December 5, 2025, at the age of 75. Surrounded by family, her death marks the end of a life dedicated to service and community.

Born on March 7, 1950, in Nashua, Ruth was the daughter of the late Russell and Martha (Welch) Richardson. She received her education from the Loudon schools, where her early life laid the foundation for her future endeavors.

A Trailblazer at the Postal Service

Ruth’s professional journey began at the Pittsfield Shoe Factory. In 1970, she made a significant career move by joining the United States Postal Service. Ruth became the first female letter carrier in Concord, earning the affectionate nickname “Ruthie” from her colleagues and the community. Over her more than 30 years with the postal service, she not only broke gender barriers but also became a beloved figure in her neighborhood.

Outside of her work, Ruth enjoyed various hobbies including sewing, quilting, and fishing. Her passion for crafting and the outdoors reflected her vibrant personality and love for life.

Family and Legacy

Ruth is predeceased by her husband, Raymond P. Martin, and two grandsons, Aybel and Brian Martin. She is survived by her children: Anthony B. Palisi and fiancé Jennifer Long, Raymond Martin II and his wife Laurabeth Wallace-Martin, Russell Martin and his wife Kassi, Elisha M. Dupuis and her husband Matthew, Scott Martin and his wife Kim, and Tony Martin and his wife Becca. Additionally, she leaves behind three brothers and fifteen grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Friends and family may pay their respects during calling hours on December 10, 2025, from 16:00 to 18:00 at the Roan Family Funeral Home located at 167 Main Street, Pembroke. A graveside service is scheduled for the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Pembroke.
