Weighing in at a substantial 12,350 pounds and measuring 12.5 feet in diameter, this year’s ball marks a significant upgrade from its predecessors. The design incorporates 5,280 Waterford crystals and LED pucks, nearly double the amount used in previous iterations.

Innovative Design Changes

The latest version, known as the Constellation Ball, represents a shift in design philosophy. It is the first to feature circular crystals, moving away from the triangular shapes that have characterized the ball since 1999. This design change aims to enhance the visual spectacle during the iconic midnight drop on December 31.

For the first time, the ball will be accessible for public viewing. New Yorkers and visitors will soon have the opportunity to purchase tickets for a wraparound viewing deck that offers an unparalleled perspective of the festivities. Additionally, attendees can submit personal messages that will be translated into Morse code and illuminated on the ball itself during the New Year’s celebration.
