Washington Township Officer Weaver Achieves Elite Drug Recognition Certification
Officer Andrew Weaver of the Washington Township Police Department has attained a significant professional milestone by graduating from the Pennsylvania Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) School No. 37 in September 2025. This achievement enhances the department’s capabilities in addressing impaired driving, a critical public safety issue.
As a certified DRE, Weaver possesses specialized training that equips him to identify individuals driving under the influence of drugs. He can also determine the specific category of drugs responsible for impairment. The Washington Township Police Department had set a strategic goal to include a certified DRE officer, and Weaver’s selection was based on his dedication, experience, and leadership.
Significant Contributions to DUI Enforcement
Weaver has been a pivotal figure in driving under the influence (DUI) enforcement within the region. His record includes a high volume of DUI-related arrests and significant leadership within the Franklin County DUI Task Force. His pursuit of this certification reflects a commitment to maintaining high standards in law enforcement and promoting public safety.
The DRE School is known for its challenging training program, which includes intensive instruction, hands-on practice, and a weeklong field certification phase. Weaver successfully completed this rigorous process and passed a comprehensive final examination, subsequently earning his credentials from the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). With this certification, he joins a select group of fewer than 250 certified DRE officers in Pennsylvania.
Regional Impact and Community Safety
Weaver’s expertise is not only beneficial to the Washington Township Police Department but also extends to neighboring municipal and state police agencies that may not have a certified DRE for impaired driving investigations. This capability positions Weaver as a valuable regional resource, reinforcing safety standards across the area.
His ability to conduct evaluations related to drug impairment supports the department’s overall commitment to community and regional safety. The Washington Township Police Department recognizes the importance of having trained professionals like Weaver on their team, as they work to improve public safety and reduce incidents of impaired driving.
This article highlights the efforts of Officer Andrew Weaver and the Washington Township Police Department in their ongoing mission to enhance law enforcement practices and community well-being.
