Residents of Tehama County are gathering to honor the life of Mary Tatro Van Tichelt, who passed away on November 22, 2025, at the age of 69. A Celebration of Life will take place on December 28, 2025, from 11:00 to 14:00 at the Molino Masonic Family Center located at 25020 Tehama Vina Road, Los Molinos, California.

Mary was a lifelong resident of Tehama County, where she was born on May 19, 1956. She is survived by her husband, Bill Van Tichelt, her son, Walter Van Tichelt, and her granddaughters, Sierra and Violet Van Tichelt. The beloved daughter of George and Sally Tatro, Mary was also the granddaughter of Sam and Rachel Stone. Her family includes siblings Rachel, George, Sara, Sam, and Betsy, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Throughout her life, Mary embodied kindness and generosity. She prioritized family above all, actively participating in raising her granddaughters and caring for her mother. Mary enjoyed a range of activities, from hunting and mountain climbing to gardening and spending time with her siblings. She was well-known for her ability to make jeans blankets for family and friends, a testament to her caring nature.

Mary’s love for Bill was central to her life. Their mutual support helped them achieve their individual goals while creating lasting memories together. They enjoyed life with laughter and joy, embodying a partnership that many admired.

In addition to her family, Mary had a passion for animals and plants. Living on five acres in El Camino (Gerber), she maintained a small farm with cows, sheep, goats, chickens, and a garden, although her plants often faced challenges from her animals. A beloved companion, Duchess the Dog, will miss her deeply.

Family and friends are encouraged to contribute to organizations that align with Mary’s values. Donations can be made to Deserving Pets Rescue at PO Box 371, Red Bluff, California, or Mercy Hospice at 1544 Market Street, Redding, California. Contributions to a charity of one’s choice are also welcome.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Mary are invited to practice kindness, assist others, and embrace joy, reflecting the spirit she shared with everyone around her. Mary Tatro Van Tichelt will be greatly missed, but her legacy of love and compassion will endure in the hearts of many.
