Beloved Educator Kathleen Ann Giacalone Passes Away at 88
Kathleen Ann Giacalone, a cherished educator and community member, peacefully passed away on November 16, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on April 24, 1937, in San Pedro, she was the daughter of Vincent and Antoinette Vitalich. Kathleen dedicated 39 years to teaching elementary school children, instilling knowledge and values in her students.
After marrying her husband, Rosario “Jack” Giacalone, she moved to Lomita, where they built their life together. Kathleen’s commitment to education was matched by her passion for travel, which she pursued during her retirement.
Kathleen is survived by her husband Jack, daughter ToniLynn (Tomo) Meek, and son Paul (Kelly) Giacalone. Her family also includes four grandchildren: Tommy, Anthony, Jacquelyn, and Gianna, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly.
In honor of her legacy, the family encourages donations to several organizations that were close to Kathleen’s heart, including Shriners Children’s, St. Jude’s Research Hospital, Disabled American Veterans, and the San Pedro Peninsula Cancer Guild.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Kathleen’s life will take place on December 2, 2025, at Mary Star of the Sea Church at 10:30 a.m. Friends and family are invited to gather and pay their respects as they remember a life dedicated to service, love, and education.
