Corner Canyon’s Eric Kjar Takes Helm as Head Coach at Weber State
Eric Kjar, a distinguished high school football coach from Corner Canyon, has been appointed as the new head football coach at Weber State University, effective immediately. This announcement was made on Tuesday, marking a significant transition for both Kjar and the Wildcats program.
Kjar’s impressive track record includes winning seven 6A state titles, just one shy of the state record, during his 14 years at Corner Canyon. His tenure has been marked by extraordinary success, with six championships won in the last eight seasons, including two three-peats. His overall record stands at an impressive 112-10, showcasing his ability to develop winning teams.
Kjar’s Vision for Weber State Football
In a statement following his appointment, Kjar expressed his enthusiasm for leading the Wildcats. “I’m very excited to be leading the Weber State football program,” he stated. “I believe strongly in the administration and the current roster and the talent in the state of Utah. I know we can build a championship-caliber program at Weber State, and I look forward to the challenge and getting started. Go Wildcats!”
Tim Crompton, the athletics director at Weber State, praised Kjar’s leadership qualities. “Coach Kjar is absolutely the right leader at the right time,” he noted. Crompton emphasized Kjar’s deep roots in Utah, proven leadership, and his ability to build programs based on talent and character. “We are confident his vision and leadership will elevate our entire program to sustained success,” Crompton added.
Player Development and Future Aspirations
Kjar’s coaching has been instrumental in the development of several players who advanced to the collegiate and professional levels. Notably, he has guided quarterbacks like Zach Wilson, who was drafted second overall by the New York Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft, and Jaxson Dart, who was selected 25th overall by the New York Giants in the 2025 NFL Draft.
This appointment is seen as a pivotal moment for Weber State athletics, with Crompton adding, “This is an exciting day not just for Weber State athletics, but for the entire institution and community. We are incredibly excited to officially welcome Coach Kjar and his family into our city and the entire Wildcat family.” Kjar’s commitment to building a successful football program aligns with the university’s core values, and there is optimism about the direction he will take the team.
As Kjar transitions from high school coaching to the collegiate level, the Weber State community is eager to see how his experience and strategic vision will shape the future of their football program. With a strong foundation of talent and Kjar’s leadership, the Wildcats aim to achieve new heights in the upcoming seasons.
