The Dallas Cowboys conducted an outdoor practice on Thursday, November 13, 2025, despite light rain and wet conditions. This decision comes as the team prepares for a demanding schedule, facing four games within an 18-day span. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer emphasized the importance of practicing on grass to aid player recovery, particularly for those returning from injuries.

On Thursday, the Cowboys held their practice at The Star in Frisco, Texas, where the grass field is known for its excellent drainage. Schottenheimer noted that the team had just come off a Monday night game and needed to maintain their conditioning as they approached a series of crucial matchups, including a game against the Philadelphia Eagles and the traditional Thanksgiving Day clash.

Schottenheimer explained, “I wanted to get on the grass. It’s better for their bodies and their legs. We’re still a little bit sore from yesterday.” He highlighted the benefits of outdoor practice, stating that it is part of a ramp-up process for the players. The team had conducted a walkthrough on Wednesday and planned to engage in high-intensity training sessions leading up to their games.

The Cowboys’ upcoming schedule is particularly intense, with their next game following the Eagles taking place on Thanksgiving Day. Schottenheimer is cautious about the players’ physical condition and has opted to limit padded practices until at least the week of the Detroit game, scheduled for December 4.

“I’ve got a great group of people that I lean on from Jim Maurer, Britt Brown, and the strength staff,” Schottenheimer said. He also mentioned that he closely monitors the players’ movements during practice and adjusts their training intensity based on their performance and recovery.

As the Cowboys navigate this busy period, the decision to practice outdoors reflects a strategic approach to player health and performance. With a well-balanced combination of training and recovery, the team aims to maintain their competitive edge in the upcoming games.

The Cowboys’ commitment to outdoor practice, even in less-than-ideal weather, underscores their dedication to preparation and player welfare as they strive for success in the remaining weeks of the season.
