The annual Turkey Toss at Vanderbilt University is set to take place on December 16, 2023, from 06:00 to 18:00. This cherished tradition, which celebrates the university community, will be hosted in the Multipurpose Room, Great Room, and café within Carmichael College. This year’s event marks a significant milestone as it concludes the university’s Sesquicentennial celebrations.

Attendees, including staff, faculty, and postdoctoral researchers, will receive a large Vanderbilt insulated bag along with their choice of turkey, halal turkey, or tofurkey. Alternatively, participants may opt for a Vanderbilt-branded scarf. Supplies are limited, and a valid Vanderbilt ID or proof of employment is required to claim these items. Each turkey, tofurkey, or scarf picked up for colleagues necessitates a separate ID.

Event Highlights and Accessibility

The Turkey Toss will feature light refreshments, giveaways of Vanderbilt merchandise, and various games and crafts designed for all ages. For those requiring transportation around the campus, VandyRide shuttles will be available throughout the event. From 07:00 to 09:00, two shuttles will operate, increasing to five from 09:00 to 18:00. Key shuttle stops include Terrace Garage, Wesley Garage, and Carmichael, among others. Attendees can utilize the Passio Go app or website for real-time route updates.

Individuals needing ADA accommodations for turkey pick-up or related assistance should contact the university at [email protected] by 17:00 CT on December 11. Unclaimed turkeys will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, ensuring that any surplus food benefits the local community.

Get Involved and Celebrate

This event not only fosters community spirit but also invites participation from all Vanderbilt staff and postdocs. Those interested in volunteering for the Turkey Toss can register online. For further inquiries regarding the event, attendees are encouraged to reach out via email at [email protected].

As Vanderbilt approaches its 150th anniversary, the Turkey Toss serves as a fitting celebration of the university’s history and commitment to community engagement. Join in the festivities and make this year’s Turkey Toss a memorable occasion!
