TNA Champion Leon Slater Withdraws from Indie Events Ahead of WWE Appearance
TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater has withdrawn from two scheduled independent wrestling events, raising speculation about his potential appearance at the upcoming WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13, 2025. Slater was slated to compete at wXw’s 25th Anniversary show in Germany on December 9 and participate in the Revolution Pro Wrestling Uprising in the United Kingdom on December 10, but he has been pulled from both events.
The announcement from wXw confirmed Slater’s absence, stating, “Leon Slater has informed us that he will unfortunately no longer be available for #wXwAnniversary on Saturday. We are working on a solution for his announced match.” Slater was expected to take part in a four-way match to determine the promotion’s new European Champion, alongside competitors Ricky Sosa, Zoltan, and Joseph Fenech Jr..
In addition to the wXw event, Slater was also scheduled for a three-way match at RevPro Uprising, where Sha Samuels was defending the Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship against Jay Joshua. The removal of Slater from these matches suggests a strategic decision that aligns with his rising profile within the wrestling industry.
While there has been no official confirmation regarding Slater’s plans for the December 13 event, many fans speculate that his withdrawal from the indie circuit might be a preparation for a significant role at Saturday Night’s Main Event. This event is set to feature a highly anticipated main match between John Cena and Gunther, marking Cena’s final match. The undercard will also include exhibition bouts featuring both main roster talent and NXT wrestlers, with matches like Cody Rhodes vs. Oba Femi and Bayley vs. Sol Ruca already announced.
Slater, who has also made appearances in NXT and is part of a tag team with Je’Von Evans, recently participated in the men’s Iron Survivor Challenge match at NXT Deadline, where Evans emerged victorious, earning a title shot at NXT Championship during the New Year’s Evil event scheduled for January 2, 2026.
As Slater prepares for potential opportunities with WWE, fans are left eager to see how this development will unfold and what it means for his career trajectory in the wrestling world.
