UConn Women’s Basketball Dominates Ohio State in 100-68 Victory
HARTFORD, Conn. — The University of Connecticut (UConn) women’s basketball team showcased its dominance with a commanding 100-68 victory over Ohio State on November 16, 2025. The match, held at PeoplesBank Arena, saw the top-ranked Huskies celebrate their recent national championship by raising a commemorative banner and sharing heartfelt video messages from former star Paige Bueckers and current guard Kaitlyn Chen.
Bueckers, who led UConn to its twelfth national title last season, delivered an enthusiastic message to fans from the office of head coach Geno Auriemma. “I miss you guys, and let’s get ready to run it back,” she said, setting the tone for the afternoon. Despite Bueckers’ absence on the court, the Huskies displayed an impressive level of readiness to reclaim their championship.
This season, UConn has emerged as a formidable force, winning all four of their games by at least 20 points. While the final scores highlight their success, the depth and talent within the roster suggest that this team may be even more dangerous than last year’s title-winning squad.
Sarah Strong Shines as UConn’s Key Player
Leading the charge was sophomore Sarah Strong, a frontrunner for the National Player of the Year. In the game against Ohio State, Strong nearly achieved a perfect performance, accumulating 29 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, five steals, and three blocks. Auriemma praised her remarkable skills, stating, “We almost want her to be perfect… I wouldn’t ask her to be if I didn’t think she could.” Strong’s versatility and poise were on full display, contributing significantly to UConn’s offensive and defensive efforts.
Her standout moment included a precise three-quarter court pass that led to an easy layup, emphasizing her court vision and playmaking ability. “Sarah Strong… no words,” tweeted Bueckers during the game, reflecting on her former teammate’s extraordinary talent. Auriemma echoed this sentiment, noting that Strong’s confidence and understanding of the game set her apart from her peers.
The Huskies’ roster is not only deep but also boasts a range of athleticism and skill. Senior forward Serah Williams, a 6-foot-4 transfer from Wisconsin, made an immediate impact by scoring UConn’s first two baskets. Freshman Blanca Quiñonez, who previously played professionally in Italy, also impressed with 18 points in just 22 minutes, showcasing her unpredictable style and ability to drive to the basket. Auriemma remarked on his ongoing efforts to determine her optimal position on the court.
UConn’s Shift in Strategy Post-Bueckers
Following Bueckers’ departure to the WNBA, UConn has adapted its gameplay. The team has increased its pace, averaging five additional offensive possessions per game compared to last season, according to CBB Analytics. This faster tempo allows the Huskies to capitalize on transition opportunities, as evidenced by their impressive tally of 27 transition points against Ohio State.
Key contributors like Kayleigh Heckel and guard KK Arnold have added to the team’s depth, providing consistent energy and skill off the bench. In addition, Azzi Fudd, a projected top-five pick in the upcoming WNBA Draft, demonstrated her scoring ability by finishing with 19 points and a career-high seven assists despite a slow start.
UConn’s depth and versatility have placed them as the unanimous No. 1 team in the country. As they prepare for a potential top-15 matchup against Michigan this coming Friday, they continue to exhibit the same level of dominance that has characterized their program. Their ability to record 30 assists on 39 made shots while limiting a formidable opponent to just six points in a quarter underlines their strength.
UConn’s continued success raises questions about the possibility of repeating as national champions. The last team to achieve this feat was UConn itself, which won four consecutive titles from 2013 to 2016. With the talent and depth present in this year’s squad, the Huskies are certainly poised to make a strong bid for another championship run.
