Apple TV 4K Users Urged to Disable New Profile Selector Feature
URGENT UPDATE: Apple TV 4K users are facing an unexpected change with the rollout of tvOS 26, which requires users to select a profile each time the device wakes up. This new feature has sparked frustration among users who find it cumbersome to navigate through multiple screens just to start watching their favorite shows.
The tvOS 26 update, released this past fall, includes several enhancements such as a revamped user interface dubbed Liquid Glass, new screensavers, and a more user-friendly Apple TV app. However, the addition of a mandatory Profile Selector screen has emerged as a point of contention for many users. As soon as the Apple TV 4K is turned on or wakes from sleep mode, users must now choose which family member’s account to access.
While the introduction of personal profiles aims to enhance user experience by offering tailored recommendations and settings, many individuals find the new requirement unnecessary, especially if they primarily use the device themselves. Users have expressed that this added step is an inconvenience when all they want is to dive into their latest binge-watch, including shows like Mayor of Kingstown on Paramount+.
Fortunately, there’s a quick fix. Users can easily disable the default Profile Selector feature by following these steps:
1. Turn on your Apple TV.
2. Navigate to and open the Settings app.
3. Select Profiles and Accounts.
4. Under the Choose Profile On Wake option, select Off.
5. For Suggested Profiles, turn on Hide.
After making these adjustments, the Apple TV 4K will default to the last profile used, streamlining the viewing experience without removing the profiles entirely. Users can still access different profiles via the Control Center by pressing and holding the TV button on the Siri Remote.
In related news, the latest update tvOS 26.2 has introduced an exciting feature allowing users to create a guest profile that does not require an Apple ID, simplifying the process even further.
As Apple continues to refine its offerings, it is crucial for users to adapt to these changes swiftly. Expect ongoing updates and further enhancements to enhance your viewing experience. Stay tuned for more developments on this front, as the situation evolves.
