Bay Area Mother Killed in Head-On Crash; Driver Also Dies
BREAKING: A tragic head-on collision on October 25 has claimed the life of 74-year-old Ellen Orcutt, a beloved mother and dedicated social worker, just down the street from her San Jose home. This devastating accident occurred off Foxworthy Avenue, leaving family and friends in mourning.
The incident unfolded when the driver of an SUV, attempting to pass another vehicle, veered into the opposite lane and collided with Orcutt’s Honda CRV, resulting in a catastrophic crash that flipped both vehicles. Tragically, the driver of the SUV also succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
Joelle Orlando, Orcutt’s daughter, expressed her heartbreak: “I just lost my best friend and my guiding light in this world.” She emphasized that her mother should be remembered for her vibrant life, not the tragic circumstances of her death.
Orcutt dedicated over 25 years to serving families in need as a social worker for Pacific Clinics, a nonprofit organization focused on behavioral and mental health services. Friends and coworkers described her as a “kind, generous, and selfless person,” often referred to as the “resource queen” for her unwavering support to those facing difficult circumstances.
Andrew Ford, a coworker at Pacific Clinics, shared, “Our world is a little chaotic, but people like Ellen were always there to remind you that hey, life may be chaotic, but you’re okay, and we’re all going to be okay.”
Police are investigating the crash and reported that the SUV driver may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. This critical detail adds to the urgency surrounding discussions on road safety and the impact of impaired driving.
Orlando is determined to honor her mother’s legacy by continuing her mission of helping others. “Cherish every moment that you have because you never know when it’s going to be taken,” she urged, highlighting the importance of community and connection in the wake of such a loss.
Coworkers have shared a poignant email Orcutt sent recently, reflecting on her years of service. In it, she wrote, “May you all be thankful and with hope for yourselves and those families that come into your life…they have a story to share and so do you. Keep hope alive. Take good care. Ellen.”
As this story develops, authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident. The community mourns the loss of a dedicated mother, friend, and advocate, reminding us all of the fragile nature of life and the importance of cherishing our loved ones.
