UPDATE: The holiday season kicked off in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, as Mayor J. William Reynolds hosted an exciting tree decorating event on November 21, 2025. Local third graders from Freemansburg and Miller Heights Elementary Schools joined in the festive celebration, bringing joy and community spirit to the city.

Students enthusiastically decorated the city’s Christmas tree with colorful ornaments, a heartwarming sight that underscores the community’s commitment to celebrating the season together. The event, supported by the Cops ‘n’ Kids Children’s Literacy Program, featured lunch, snacks, and holiday songs, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with laughter and cheer.

“It’s wonderful to see the kids so engaged and excited about the holidays,” remarked Mayor Reynolds during the event. The Liberty High School Caroling Band added to the festive ambiance, performing a selection of holiday classics that had students singing along.

Among the highlights, third grader Eric from Freemansburg Elementary received assistance from Bethlehem police Officer William Rodriguez as he hung his ornament. The event also featured culinary students from the Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School, who showcased their skills by decorating festive cupcakes, which delighted the young attendees.

As part of the day’s festivities, students also participated in a special book giveaway, with Skylar, another Freemansburg Elementary student, enthusiastically selecting a new book with help from Kylie Sheridan, a member of the Moravian women’s basketball team. This initiative emphasizes the importance of literacy and community support.

Looking ahead, the excitement continues as selected students from both elementary schools will assist Mayor Reynolds in lighting the holiday tree next week, further deepening the connection between the city’s youth and their local leaders.

This event serves as a reminder of the power of community and the joy of coming together to celebrate the spirit of the holidays. With the tree now beautifully decorated, Bethlehem is ready to embrace the festive season, bringing smiles and warmth to all who visit.

Stay tuned for more updates as the holiday festivities unfold across the city!
