Chinese Men Charged with Attempted Murder of Korean CEO
URGENT UPDATE: Two men have been indicted for the attempted murder of a Korean CEO in a shocking incident that unfolded in the underground parking lot of an apartment complex in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon. Authorities report that the duo aimed to kidnap, rob, and kill the victim, identified as Mr. C, aged 61, in a premeditated attack.
On November 26, 2023, the Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office announced charges against Mr. A, a 38-year-old naturalized citizen from China, who faces serious allegations of attempted robbery-murder. His accomplice, Mr. B, 32, also a Chinese national, has been charged with aiding aggravated robbery. The prosecution’s case has escalated from initial claims of simple assault to these grave charges after a thorough investigation revealed alarming premeditation.
The incident occurred in July when Mr. A allegedly ambushed Mr. C in the parking garage, intending to steal valuables and end his life. Prosecutors disclosed that Mr. A used an adhesive-coated box to blindside the victim before striking him with a metal hammer. The attack left Mr. C injured, requiring two weeks of medical treatment but he narrowly escaped a more tragic fate.
Evidence uncovered during the investigation paints a disturbing picture. Authorities discovered that Mr. B played a crucial role by stalking Mr. C and collaborating with Mr. A in planning the attack. Prosecutors revealed that Mr. A had been following the victim and his family for three months, even purchasing items necessary for the crime, including a refrigerated truck, adhesive, a stun gun, and an axe.
The investigation took a turn when it was found that Mr. A had attempted to sell a large amount of cryptocurrency, raising suspicions of financial motives behind the premeditated crime. Prosecutors also uncovered plans for Mr. A to rent a hideout and flee overseas, indicating the seriousness of their intentions.
Moreover, authorities indicated that this was not an isolated case. Mr. A and Mr. B were also reportedly stalking another potential victim, Mr. D, a 59-year-old gold shop owner featured on YouTube, as they prepared tools for a robbery aimed at stealing gold bars. Fortunately, this plan did not escalate to an actual crime, but it highlights the dangerous nature of their activities.
This case has raised significant concerns about safety in the area and the growing trend of violent crimes motivated by financial gain. As the legal proceedings unfold, communities are left in shock, questioning the motives behind such heinous acts.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about similar incidents to come forward. The court’s next steps will be closely watched as the prosecution prepares to present its case in the coming weeks.
