Dodgers Ready for Game 3 as Scherzer Returns to Dodger Stadium
UPDATE: The Los Angeles Dodgers are gearing up for a pivotal Game 3 against the Toronto Blue Jays on October 15, 2025, with former pitcher Max Scherzer set to take the mound for the opposition. This matchup marks a significant moment, as Scherzer previously faced elimination with the Dodgers just four years ago.
As the Dodgers aim for a World Series title, their strategy has shifted dramatically. After a challenging 2021 postseason where they mismanaged their pitching resources, the Dodgers are now embracing a straightforward approach: deploying top-tier starting pitchers in every game. This change has contributed to their impressive 10-2 postseason record, showcasing a newfound confidence and clarity in their game plan.
“We’ve got a solid rotation,” said Dodgers pitching coach Mark Prior. “Every game where our starting pitcher has gone into the sixth inning, we’ve won. It’s that simple.” The Dodgers’ current rotation includes stars like Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Shohei Ohtani, all of whom are expected to perform at their peak as the series progresses.
The contrast to past strategies is stark. In 2021, the Dodgers opted for unconventional methods, utilizing an opener and shifting their stars into unfamiliar roles, resulting in a disappointing exit from the postseason. Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martinez criticized the team’s analytics department at the time, stating they “misused probably the best rotation in all of baseball.”
Now, the Dodgers are letting their pitchers do what they do best. “We’re just riding those guys,” catcher Will Smith remarked, emphasizing the team’s confidence in their starters. This simplified strategy has not only boosted team morale but has also generated excitement among fans as they anticipate a potential championship run.
As for Scherzer, who faced his own challenges during his time with the Dodgers, he is focused on the present. “I have plenty of motivation. I’m here to win,” he stated, underscoring his commitment to the Blue Jays and their quest for victory.
The key question heading into Game 3 is whether Glasnow can deliver a strong performance, ideally lasting six or seven innings. If he does, the Dodgers stand a strong chance of advancing further in their championship pursuit. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as the Dodgers hope to secure a commanding position in the series.
With the return of Scherzer to Dodger Stadium, the stakes are higher than ever. Fans are eager to see if the Dodgers can capitalize on their new strategy and continue their march toward the World Series championship.
