Domingo Returns to SNL as Politics Takes a Backseat to Fun

UPDATE: “Saturday Night Live” kicked off its latest episode with a vibrant blend of pop culture and comedy, featuring the return of the beloved character Domingo, played by Marcello Hernández, alongside host and musical guest Sabrina Carpenter. The show aired on October 14, 2023, and was momentarily delayed due to college football broadcasts, but excitement surged as fans tuned in.
Carpenter made her debut as host, performing tracks from her album “Man’s Best Friend”. The episode showcased a comedic skit where Domingo reappeared as the romantic party crasher, delighting viewers with his charm. In a playful twist, his character joined Chloe Fineman’s Kelsey, who hilariously attempted to celebrate her husband Matt’s 30th birthday in a romantic setting, only to be interrupted by her friends, the “Kelsquad.”
The Kelsquad’s catchy performance included the chant, “D, O, M, I, N, G, O, Domingo!“, setting the tone for a night filled with laughter and absurdity. Domingo’s character serenaded the audience, recounting a night in Nashville that led to a noise complaint, much to the chagrin of a frustrated Matt, played by Andrew Dismukes, who exclaimed, “Kelsey, I’m serious, this is strike six!”
While the night was dominated by laughs, politics made its presence felt with a sketch featuring James Austin Johnson portraying former President Donald Trump. In a comedic podcast setting, Trump discussed his favorite vegetables with a group of child comedians, humorously stating, “I’ve never been one for the veggies. Ding Dongs. I like a Ding Dong.” The sketch cleverly critiqued Trump’s political strategies and recent actions, including his controversial commutation of former representative George Santos’ sentence.
Johnson’s Trump referenced the nationwide No Kings protests, quipping about the public’s reaction to Santos’ release, saying, “The people are marching because they’re happy he’s free, right? It’s a ‘Yes, King’ march.” His offbeat humor and nonsensical remarks kept audiences engaged and entertained.
“SNL” continues to blend humor and current events, showcasing both talent and timeliness. This episode highlighted how pop culture can provide a welcome distraction amid serious political discourse, making it a must-watch.
As the show aired, viewers were encouraged to share their favorite moments on social media, amplifying the show’s reach and engagement. With its perfect combination of comedy and commentary, this episode of “Saturday Night Live” is set to generate buzz and discussions in households across America.
