BREAKING NEWS: Filomena Califano Piccirillo, aged 85, has passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, in Schenectady, New York. The beloved mother and grandmother leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and community service.

Born in San Giovanni e Paolo, Italy, Filomena moved to the United States in 1965 after marrying her late husband, Guido Piccirillo, in 1963 in Caiazzo. Together, they raised three children: Nicola “Nick” Piccirillo, Lucia Ingriselli, and John Piccirillo, who now carry on her cherished family traditions.

Filomena was a dedicated employee for many years at Union College and later worked at the dental office of Dr. DeLuke. She was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where her contributions to the community were deeply valued.

Her passions included cultivating a vibrant vegetable garden and showcasing her prized geraniums. Above all, she treasured the time spent cooking for and caring for her grandchildren, who will remember her as a loving matriarch.

“She was the heart of our family,” said her son, Nicola. “Her love and spirit will always be with us.”

Filomena is survived by her children, her cherished grandchildren, and her beloved siblings from Italy. She was also supported during her battle with Alzheimer’s by her caregiver, Marjorie Cummings, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Sunday, December 14th, from 3 to 5 p.m. at DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, located at 1605 Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday, December 15th, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church, 331 Seward Pl, Schenectady, followed by entombment in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that cash donations be made to organizations that supported Filomena during her illness, including the Alzheimer’s Association – Northeastern New York and Consumer Directed Choices.

Condolences and memories can be shared at demarcostonefuneralhome.com. The family appreciates the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
