Gerald R. Cote, Former GE VP, Passes Away at 85
UPDATE: Gerald R. Cote, a revered figure in the engineering world and former Vice President of General Electric, has passed away at the age of 85 on November 12, 2023. This news comes as a significant loss to the community of Niskayuna, NY, where he was known not only for his professional achievements but also for his deep commitment to family and sports.
Born on July 21, 1940, in Derry, NH, Jerry graduated from Pinkerton High School and went on to earn a degree in Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His career at GE spanned over 30 years, during which he held numerous prestigious positions, ultimately rising to the rank of Vice President. His work took him across various locations in the United States, including notable assignments in Louisville, KY, and Schenectady, NY.
Jerry’s personal life was equally impactful. He married his beloved wife, Sally, in July 1963, and together they enjoyed decades filled with love and shared passions. A dedicated father, Jerry was actively involved in coaching his late son, Brian, in little league and high school baseball—a testament to his commitment to family and youth sports.
Later in life, Jerry discovered a love for golf, which he pursued passionately, often playing with friends and family. His loyalty to sports extended to being a die-hard fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, never missing a game.
Jerry is survived by his sons, Andrew (Sydney) and Christopher (Julia), along with his two great-grandchildren, Sunday and Archer, who were a source of immense joy in his later years.
At his request, there will be no formal service. Memorial contributions can be made in his name to The Foundation for Ellis Hospital, located at 1101 Nott Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
Jerry’s legacy will undoubtedly live on through his family and the countless individuals he impacted throughout his life and career. This news serves as a poignant reminder of the connections we forge and the passions we pursue, both in our personal and professional lives.
