Hydesville Man, 65, Arrested for Attempted Homicide in Domestic Violence Case

URGENT UPDATE: A 65-year-old man from Hydesville, identified as David Bernard Privat, has been arrested for attempted homicide following a violent domestic incident early this morning. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident unfolded at approximately 12:11 a.m. on December 2, 2025, on the 3000 block of Barber Creek Rd.

Authorities were alerted when a 911 call was placed regarding domestic violence at the residence. As deputies rushed to the scene, one officer spotted Privat’s vehicle—a white Chevrolet Suburban—traveling at a high rate of speed on Rohnerville Rd., roughly one mile from the reported location. The deputy promptly initiated a traffic stop near Puddin Rd. in Fortuna.

Upon detaining Privat for further questioning, another deputy spoke with the victim at the Barber Creek Rd. home. Evidence gathered during the investigation confirmed a violent crime had taken place, leading to Privat’s immediate arrest. The victim sustained minor injuries but did not require medical attention, underscoring the serious nature of the allegations.
