ICE Agents Not Patrolling Muni Amid Trump’s Deployment Delay
BREAKING: The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) confirmed today that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are NOT patrolling Muni vehicles, despite public fears. This announcement comes as the city grapples with the potential deployment of federal agents under President Donald Trump‘s order.
Officials stated on social media, “We have received inquiries about the presence of ICE on Muni vehicles. There are no credible reports that ICE agents are boarding Muni buses.” This clarification aims to ease the anxiety of residents and commuters who have expressed concerns about federal immigration enforcement on public transport.
Earlier on October 23, 2025, ICE and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents arrived at Coast Guard Island in Alameda as part of President Trump’s controversial deployment. However, the situation escalated when hundreds of protesters gathered to block access to the island, demonstrating against federal intervention in local law enforcement.
In a significant turn of events, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie revealed that Trump agreed to pause the planned “surge” of federal agents during a phone conversation. Lurie, along with Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, reportedly advocated for more time for San Francisco to address crime through its own city and state law enforcement resources.
The mayor emphasized the importance of local control, stating, “We need to focus on solutions that work for our communities, not federal overreach.” The rapid response from local leaders has garnered praise from many residents who fear the implications of federal law enforcement in their neighborhoods.
As public sentiment continues to evolve, the SFMTA encourages anyone who witnesses ICE activity to report it through the San Francisco Rapid Response Network. This initiative aims to ensure community members feel safe and informed about their rights.
Residents are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The situation remains dynamic, and developments are expected as the community navigates this ongoing issue. Stay tuned for updates as this story unfolds and the implications of federal policy on local governance continue to be debated.
