Idaho Students Name Snowplows: ‘Blizzard Basher’ and ‘Frosty’ Win

BREAKING NEWS: The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) has just announced the winners of its snowplow naming contest, featuring the creative submissions from local students. The names “Blizzard Basher” from the Genesee School District and “Frosty” from Salmon River Jr-Sr High School have been officially selected as regional winners.

This exciting development highlights the creativity of Idaho’s youth, as submissions came from sixth through twelfth-grade classrooms across the state. ITD Director Scott Stokes praised the students, stating, “We’re proud of the creativity and community spirit shown by Idaho’s students and teachers in naming our snowplows.” He emphasized that these names foster a connection between the community and the important work of winter road maintenance crews.

Along with the honor of naming a snowplow, the winning schools will receive educational visits from ITD, which will teach students about snowplow operations and safe winter driving practices. The contest revealed a total of 12 winners statewide, showcasing names that capture the spirit of winter. Other notable winning names include “CtrlSaltDelete” from Mullan School District and “SnowbiWanKenobi” from Post Falls High School in North Idaho; “Austin Plowers” and “Betty WhiteOut” from Idaho Virtual Academy in Southwest Idaho; “Blizzard Wizard” from Shoshone Schools in South Central Idaho; and “Sleetwoodmac” from Franklin Middle School in Southeast Idaho, among others.

As the winter season approaches, Stokes urges drivers to be mindful when they encounter snowplows, emphasizing the need for safety on the roads. “When you see a plow out on the road, please remember to give them space so they can keep our highways safe for everyone,” he said.

This contest not only encourages creativity among Idaho’s youth but also fosters a sense of community and awareness about the vital services provided by the ITD.
