Jennifer Lawrence Declares: Avoids Politics to Prevent Division
URGENT UPDATE: Actress Jennifer Lawrence has confirmed she will refrain from commenting on politics, stating her intention is to avoid “adding fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart.” In a recent interview with The New York Times podcast, “The Interview”, released on October 17, 2025, Lawrence expressed her concerns about the current political climate and its divisive nature.
In her candid discussion with host Lulu Garcia-Navarro, Lawrence reflected on her previous outspoken criticism of Donald Trump during his first term. She stated, “I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off” due to the chaotic political environment. Lawrence emphasized her belief that celebrity opinions do not sway voter behavior, saying, “Election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for.”
Lawrence, who previously wrote an op-ed criticizing Trump’s victory in 2016, now finds herself navigating a “complicated recalibration” regarding her political expressions. “I don’t want to start turning people off to films and to art that could change consciousness or change the world,” she remarked, revealing her desire to protect her art and audience.
Despite her decision to keep political opinions private, Lawrence aims to convey her beliefs through her film projects. “I try to express my politics through my work,” she explained, highlighting upcoming films from her production company, including “Bread and Roses,” which tells the story of three Afghan women amid the Taliban’s resurgence in 2021, and the abortion documentary “Zurawski v. Texas.”
Reflecting on her past comments, Lawrence admitted to regretting some of her statements. “I regret everything I’ve ever done or said,” she joked, adding, “The second term feels different. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose.”
As political tensions escalate, Lawrence’s choice to step back from direct commentary underlines a significant shift in how celebrities engage with politics. Her remarks resonate as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by public figures in today’s polarized environment.
