Major Traffic Disruptions Planned in Boulder County Nov. 1-7
URGENT UPDATE: Significant traffic disruptions are scheduled across Boulder County from November 1-7, 2023. Multiple construction projects will impact key roads, affecting thousands of drivers and commuters.
28th Street improvements will temporarily relocate the northbound RTD Stop No. 17992, serving routes 205 and BOLT, just south of the Valmont intersection. This relocation is in effect until December 31, as crews work to enhance multimodal travel along 28th Street from Pearl to Iris.
Meanwhile, 19th Street will see a complete closure between Sumac and Upland due to bridge replacement work over Fourmile Canyon Creek. A new bike and pedestrian underpass is also being constructed. Motorists and RTD services will be detoured via Quince, with the closure expected to last until April 1, 2024.
In addition, the 63rd Street waterline replacement project will close 63rd, Andrus, and 62nd from Jay to Valmont for through traffic, though access for businesses and residents will remain open. This work is set to continue until April 1, 2024.
Milling and paving operations along Colo. 7 are also underway, with alternating double-lane closures from 7 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday between 28th Street and Cherryvale Road. These operations are expected to conclude by December 15.
In the Boulder County area, Sugarloaf Road will undergo culvert replacements at Betasso Road, requiring lane closures and a temporary three-way traffic signal. Travel delays are anticipated, with work expected to last into November. Access to Betasso Preserve will remain open.
The City of Boulder is also conducting a waterline replacement project affecting traffic until February 2024. During this project, local access will be maintained while both lanes on 63rd Street between Gunbarrel Avenue and the 63rd Street railroad crossing will shift to the east side of the roadway.
On the horizon, the Colo. 119 safety, mobility, and bikeway construction project is set to continue until spring 2027, also under the aegis of CDOT.
In Erie, the Prince Lake Dam rehabilitation at 111th Street and Flatiron Meadows Boulevard is scheduled to last through March 2026. While no lane closures are planned, expect brief delays as work trucks access the site.
Furthermore, lane closures will occur on Erie Parkway and Glacier Drive for traffic signal installations through December on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m..
Finally, Weld County will fully close WCR 1.5 and WCR 3 between WCR 10 and 10.5 until November 26 for maintenance, impacting travel 24 hours a day.
