UPDATE: Mundelein’s volleyball star, Paige Prochnow, is making headlines for both her athletic and academic achievements. The 5-foot-9 senior outside hitter has just recorded a remarkable 11 aces in a single match, breaking school records and leaving a significant mark in state history.

Prochnow’s performance comes as the Mustangs gear up for the Class 4A McHenry Regional semifinals, facing off against eighth-seeded McHenry or tenth-seeded Round Lake on Tuesday at 6 p.m. This season, she leads her team with 203 kills, 186 digs, and 51 aces, demonstrating her commitment to excellence on the court.

In a recent match against Warren on September 30, Prochnow not only made history with her aces but also showcased her leadership skills. “I was really excited,” she stated. “I honestly did not see that coming. I felt like it was more the team that contributed to the win.”

Prochnow’s journey has not been without challenges. After suffering an ankle injury during a match against New Trier in September, she faced difficulties reclaiming her starting spot. However, her determination shone through as she continued to uplift her teammates from the sidelines. “I just kind of accepted that I had a new role on the team,” Prochnow said, emphasizing the importance of maintaining positive energy.

Her impact extends beyond athletics. Prochnow has also achieved academic excellence, scoring a perfect 36 on the ACT. She is actively applying to colleges, aiming for a future in the medical field. “She’s one of the brightest students we have on our team,” said Mundelein coach Jeff Blezien. “She’s a true student-athlete, committed to her academic success.”

Prochnow’s dynamism on and off the court resonates with her teammates. “She’s the type of teammate that will lift you up no matter what,” said senior defensive specialist Mellany Rodriguez. “She’s always giving positive affirmations.”

As the Mustangs prepare for the upcoming match, all eyes will be on Prochnow, whose journey exemplifies resilience and leadership in the face of adversity. With her record-breaking performance and unwavering support for her teammates, she is not only a player to watch but also a role model for aspiring athletes everywhere.

Stay tuned as the playoffs unfold and Prochnow continues to push boundaries in both her sport and academics.
