Nez Perce County Property Tax Bills Sent; Payments Due Soon
UPDATE: Nez Perce County property tax bills have been mailed, with payments for the first half of 2025 due by December 20. Residents are urged to take immediate action to avoid late charges, as the deadline approaches in less than a month.
County Treasurer Rebecca “Missy” McLaughlin announced that accessing her office has been made easier due to the opening of a new parking lot. This important change comes after the demolition of the old courthouse over the summer, which caused significant parking issues for residents conducting business at the courthouse.
The new parking lot is accessible from both 12th and 13th streets, enhancing convenience for residents. McLaughlin emphasized the importance of including payment stubs or parcel numbers with tax payments to ensure accuracy.
For the 2025 tax year, property tax payments are split into two installments. The first half is due on December 20, while the second half must be paid by June 20. Payments can be mailed to P.O. Box 896, Lewiston, ID 83501, and must be postmarked by the due date to avoid late fees. Residents mailing payments on the deadline are encouraged to request a hand-stamped envelope at their local post office to ensure timely processing.
Additionally, a dropbox for payments is available at the corner of F and 12th streets, providing another option for residents to submit their taxes conveniently.
In a related update, McLaughlin revealed that Avista, the local utility company, successfully challenged its property taxes. This decision means that the county, the city of Lewiston, and local school districts will need to reimburse Avista, resulting in additional costs for property taxpayers. These costs are listed on tax bills under the line marked “JDGMNT.”
If residents have not received their tax bills or have questions regarding their payments, they are encouraged to contact the treasurer’s office at (208) 799-3030 or via email at [email protected].
As the deadline nears, residents are advised to act quickly to ensure compliance and avoid unnecessary penalties. This critical financial obligation affects all property owners in Nez Perce County, making it essential to stay informed and proactive.
