URGENT UPDATE: Over 350 flights have been canceled at Chicago O’Hare International Airport today, with delays averaging a staggering 55 minutes. The chaos is a result of runway construction, which is causing significant disruptions at one of the nation’s busiest airports.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reports that the ground delay is in effect from 7:45 a.m. to 9:59 p.m. today. As of 4:30 p.m., the ripple effects are being felt nationwide, with more than 2,100 flights canceled across the country, primarily due to the ongoing government shutdown and the FAA’s directive to reduce air traffic.

In addition to O’Hare’s disruptions, Chicago Midway International Airport is also experiencing delays, averaging 42 minutes, although only 25 flights have been canceled there. The situation is escalating, with over 7,000 additional delays reported today alone, as tracked by FlightAware.

Travelers should be aware that a Winter Storm Warning is set to take effect in Cook County at 9 p.m.. Snow accumulation could add to the already challenging conditions, with several inches expected to fall overnight into Monday.
