Philip Rivers Set for Unlikely NFL Comeback Against Seahawks
UPDATE: The NFL world is buzzing as Philip Rivers prepares for an astonishing comeback this Sunday. The Indianapolis Colts are expected to activate the 44-year-old quarterback from the practice squad, marking his return to the field after an incredible 1,800 days since his last game.
Rivers will face off against the formidable Seattle Seahawks defense at 4:25 PM ET today, potentially making history as the oldest quarterback to start a game after a significant layoff. While the Colts have yet to officially name him the starter, anticipation is rife. The decision comes as Riley Leonard (knee) participated fully in practice this week, adding to the drama.
As Rivers takes the field, he will become the least mobile quarterback in the league, with an average speed of just 3.02 mph during his last season in 2020. His return has sparked mixed reactions; while some joke about the challenges he faces, Rivers himself acknowledges the risks. “I know that there’s risk involved, obviously, on what may or may not happen,” he stated. “But the only way to find out is going for it.”
Amid this extraordinary comeback, attention also shifts to Daniel Jones, who remains out with an Achilles injury, leaving his future with the Colts uncertain. The franchise may consider using the franchise tag to retain him, which could cost over $40 million next season. With Jones not cleared for contact until at least June, the Colts face a critical decision.
In related news, Joe Burrow‘s comments this week have raised eyebrows as he expressed concerns about having fun in the game. His remarks suggest discontent, leading to speculation about his future with the Cincinnati Bengals. Sources close to Burrow downplay the severity, noting he’s simply frustrated with his team’s performance.
Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers enter a pivotal stretch, with their playoff hopes hinging on today’s game against the New Orleans Saints. A victory could secure their position at the top of the NFC South for the first time since 2015.
As the clock ticks down to kickoff, fans and analysts alike are poised for what could be a groundbreaking day in NFL history. Stay tuned for live updates and reactions from the games as they unfold!
