BREAKING: A high school principal in Riverview, Florida, has been arrested and charged with failure to report child abuse. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 42-year-old Jazrick Haggins on Friday, following a disturbing investigation linked to a 4-year-old child who was inappropriately touched by a 16-year-old at the daycare operated at Spoto High School.

The investigation began in May after the incident was reported to Haggins in April. Alarming details reveal that Haggins failed to report the incident to the Department of Children and Families or law enforcement for a critical two-week period. As a mandatory reporter under state law, Haggins was legally obligated to report any allegations of child abuse immediately.

According to the sheriff’s office, Haggins acknowledged he was aware of the allegations but insisted he was conducting his own investigation instead of notifying authorities. This decision has raised serious concerns about the safety of children under his supervision.

Haggins was taken into custody and booked into the Polk County Jail. He is currently on hold for transfer to Hillsborough County for further legal proceedings.

This incident underscores the critical importance of reporting child abuse swiftly. The community is now left questioning how such a significant lapse could occur in a position of authority.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional information related to the case to come forward. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this troubling incident, highlighting the need for vigilance in protecting vulnerable children.
