Salvation Army Urgently Seeks 400+ Toys for Local Families
URGENT UPDATE: The Salvation Army is calling for immediate toy donations to support 400 local families in San Diego this Christmas season. With just one week left before distribution begins, the organization is facing a critical shortage of hundreds of toys needed to make the holiday special for these families.
Inside the Salvation Army Kroc Center warehouse, donations such as basketballs, dolls, and art supplies are piling up. However, the collection still falls significantly short of the target. Glynis Eckert, the center’s director of marketing, emphasized the urgency, stating, “Even like a Barbie house, this is something that we’ll put aside specifically for a family that maybe we know had a bit extra difficult time this year.”
The organization reports a stark lack of toys for older children, with most donations focusing on younger age groups. Janet Reade, director of volunteers and community engagement, noted, “Our pre-selected families can register their children of all ages: 0 all the way up to 12, so we are looking for toys for those older age groups.”
Next week, parents from a pre-registered list will select toys for their children, with the aim of providing each child with three to four toys. Eckert expressed hope, stating, “We, of course, are hoping to have every parent be able to get three or four toys for their children.” However, if the toy shortage continues, the Salvation Army may be forced to purchase toys, which could strain their financial resources and impact their overall mission of spreading holiday joy.
The organization aims to deliver a complete Christmas experience, which includes not only toys but also gift wrap, bows, gift tags, and food boxes. “When they go home, and they’re wrapping all their toys for their family, they feel like they’ve had the Christmas experience,” Eckert added.
Donations are urgently needed and can be made in person at the Kroc Center, online, or through monetary contributions. Every contribution counts in making a difference this holiday season. Click here to donate now.
As the clock ticks down to Christmas, the Salvation Army’s call for action is more pressing than ever. Help ensure that every child in San Diego experiences the joy of the holiday season. Share this message and contribute to a cause that truly makes a difference.
