Second Suspect Charged in Fatal Shooting of 16-Year-Old in Utah

UPDATE: A second suspect, a 15-year-old male, has been charged as a juvenile for his role in the deadly shooting of 16-year-old Mason Caballero near Ben Lomond High School in Ogden, Utah. The suspect was apprehended in Denver, Colorado, and has been charged with aggravated murder and multiple counts of firearm-related offenses, according to local authorities.

The tragic incident occurred on October 7, 2023, at the intersection of 5th and Grammercy Avenue. The Ogden City Police Department confirmed that Caballero died from gunshot wounds sustained during the attack. Following his capture, the juvenile was transported back to Utah, where he faces serious charges, including two counts of attempted aggravated murder and 25 counts of felony discharge of a firearm.

In a shocking twist, the boy’s father, Fernando Renteria, 41, has also been charged with obstruction of justice for allegedly aiding his son’s escape from the Ogden area post-shooting. Renteria is facing two counts of obstruction, a serious felony charge, for reportedly taking his son to Las Vegas to evade law enforcement.

The first suspect, Isaias Emanuel Carranza, 16, was arrested on October 11 and is also charged with aggravated murder, two counts of attempted aggravated murder, and 25 counts of felony discharge of a firearm.
