UPDATE: St. Louis residents can now access free firewood this winter, thanks to an urgent initiative by the City’s Department of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry. This program, designed to help residents stay warm during the colder months, is available at select locations across the city while supplies last.

Firewood can be picked up at the lower Muny Opera Parking Lot in Forest Park, near the compost area off Holly Hills Drive in Carondelet Park, and north of Picnic Site #4 in O’Fallon Park. Wood is delivered in the afternoons from Monday to Friday as part of the City’s sustainability efforts and ongoing park maintenance.

Parks Director Greg Hayes emphasized that this initiative leverages wood from city tree removal operations. “We are committed to supporting our residents during the winter months,” he stated. The program runs through early March 2026, but availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents are advised that commercial vehicles and trailers are not permitted.

This timely initiative not only aids in providing warmth but also underscores St. Louis’ commitment to sustainability and community support. Residents interested in more information can contact the Forestry Division at (314) 613-7200.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to secure free firewood. Act fast, as supplies are limited and will go quickly! Share this news with fellow St. Louisans to ensure everyone can benefit from this essential resource this winter.
