Sterling Heights Launches Urgent Food Drive Amid SNAP Cuts

UPDATE: Sterling Heights kicks off its 47th Annual Ken Stempowski Memorial Food Drive as urgent needs rise due to the federal shutdown and SNAP cuts. Residents and businesses are rallying together to combat food insecurity in the community with this vital initiative.

The food drive, spearheaded by the Department of Public Works, has taken on heightened importance as families face financial strains. “Ken’s legacy reminds us that one person’s compassion can create lasting change,” stated DPW Director Mike Moore. This year, the food drive has expanded its reach by partnering with the Chaldean Community Foundation, aiming to enhance its impact on those affected by the current economic hardships. Donation bins are now located throughout Sterling Heights, including at City Hall, the Community Center, and the Sterling Heights Public Library. Monetary donations are also encouraged, with all proceeds directed to the Community Food Bank of Macomb County. This organization supports local food pantries and meal services, directly responding to the escalating needs of residents.
