Suspect Charged with Murder, Dismemberment, Arson in Chicago

URGENT UPDATE: A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with a shocking murder and arson case that unfolded in Lawndale, Chicago, earlier this year. Authorities confirmed that Deparris Slaughter, 32, from Munster, Indiana, is facing multiple felony charges, including First Degree Murder and Dismembering a Human Body, following the brutal attack on March 7, 2023.

The incident began just before 9 p.m. when emergency responders were called to a house fire on South Kirkland Avenue, situated between Cermak Road and Ogden Avenue. Once firefighters extinguished the flames, they discovered the lifeless body of a 68-year-old man inside the residence. Tragically, the victim succumbed to gunshot wounds to his neck and chest, as confirmed by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Disturbingly, sources close to the investigation revealed that the victim had been dismembered, with both of his arms and one of his legs severed. Neighbors reported that the victim had been renting the home and lived there with his two adult sons, who had only moved into the neighborhood approximately two years prior.

Nine months following the harrowing incident, police identified Slaughter as a suspect and apprehended him on Saturday in Burnham, Illinois. He is now facing a total of four felony charges: Murder – First Degree, Residential Arson, Dismembering a Human Body, and Conceal Homicidal Death. Slaughter is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
