Thunder’s 33-4 Run Powers 32-Point Blowout Against Jazz
UPDATE: In a stunning turn of events, the Oklahoma City Thunder launched a jaw-dropping 33-4 run to secure a commanding 144-112 victory over the Utah Jazz on November 10, 2023, in NBA Cup play. This decisive win marks the Thunder’s eighth consecutive victory, elevating their record to 16-1.
The Thunder, who trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half, showcased their resilience and dominance throughout the game. The 32-point margin of victory is the largest comeback win for any team that trailed by 15 points or more in the play-by-play era, dating back to 1997-98. Oklahoma City is now 5-0 when facing double-digit deficits, solidifying their status as the only team undefeated in such situations.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the star of the night, scoring 31 points and hitting all three of his attempts from beyond the arc. After struggling with his three-point shooting earlier this season, he has turned the tide, making half of his long-range shots in recent games. His performance included a remarkable 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 10-of-12 from the free-throw line.
Isaiah Joe added 16 points, while Jaylin Williams contributed a season-high 15 points, including five three-pointers. The Thunder demonstrated exceptional shooting skills, with a field goal percentage of 61.4% and an impressive 62.2% on three-pointers, sinking 23 of 37 attempts.
Despite the defeat, the Jazz had notable performances from Keyonte George, who scored 20 points, and Lauri Markkanen, who added 19 points. However, Utah’s struggles continued as they fell to 5-10 overall and 0-3 in tournament play.
The Thunder’s defensive pressure was relentless, forcing the Jazz into a staggering 28 turnovers that resulted in 44 points for Oklahoma City. The Thunder’s suffocating defense, particularly in the third quarter, was a defining factor, as they outscored Utah 43-20 during that stretch.
Utah initially led the game, scoring 44 points in the first quarter—the highest total against the Thunder this season. However, the momentum shifted dramatically when Oklahoma City finished the third quarter on a remarkable run, scoring 22 consecutive points.
As the Thunder continue to shine in the NBA Cup, attention now turns to their next matchup. Fans and analysts alike will be eagerly watching to see if Oklahoma City can maintain their winning streak and capitalize on their current form.
Stay tuned for updates on the Thunder’s journey in the NBA Cup, as they aim to build upon their remarkable success this season.
