Tigers Lock In Kyle Finnegan With $19M Deal, Eyes on Playoffs
UPDATE: The Detroit Tigers have reached a groundbreaking agreement with closer Kyle Finnegan on a two-year, $19 million contract, pending a physical, as confirmed by ESPN’s Jeff Passan late Tuesday night. This deal marks a significant step for the Tigers, who are determined to secure a third consecutive playoff appearance.
Finnegan’s performance has been stellar since joining the Tigers at the trade deadline, where he quickly became a key asset. Last season, he racked up 24 saves and recorded a 3.47 ERA with 55 strikeouts. The 34-year-old pitcher previously played for the Washington Nationals, where he notched 38 saves in a full season and 28 saves the year before.
The urgency of this contract comes as the Tigers prepare for a competitive season ahead. Having finished the previous season with a record of 87-75, they advanced to the American League Division Series (ALDS) but were eliminated by the Seattle Mariners. The team is looking to build on last year’s success and Finnegan’s return could be pivotal.
Unfortunately, Finnegan’s last season was marred by a mild right adductor strain, which sidelined him during a critical September push for the playoffs. He sustained the injury while warming up for a game against the New York Mets.
As the Tigers look to solidify their bullpen, Finnegan’s experience and proven track record will be essential. Fans are eager to see how this deal impacts the team’s strategy as they aim for another strong postseason run.
With this latest development, all eyes will be on the Tigers as they finalize the agreement and prepare for the upcoming season. Keep an eye out for further updates on how this significant signing will shape the team’s future.
