UConn’s Joe Fagnano Leads Huskies to Historic 38-25 Win

UPDATE: In a stunning display of skill and composure, Joe Fagnano guided UConn football to a remarkable 38-25 victory over Boston College on November 4, 2023, marking the team’s first power conference road win since 2012. Fagnano’s performance was nothing short of extraordinary, as he completed 23 of 31 passes for 362 yards and four touchdowns, solidifying his status as a rising star in college football.
Fagnano’s calm demeanor on the field was pivotal in the Huskies’ success. He connected with tight end Juice Vereen four times for a total of 82 yards and two touchdowns, including a stunning 50-yard reception. “He did a great job,” praised Boston College coach Bill O’Brien. “He was very calm, he knows where to go with the ball.”
The victory not only boosts UConn’s record to 5-2 but also puts them one win away from bowl eligibility for the third time in four years. The Huskies, averaging 37 points per game, are currently ranked 21st nationally and have recorded more plays of 25 yards or more than any other team in the country.
Fagnano, now in his seventh year of college football, has demonstrated remarkable consistency, throwing for a total of 1,918 yards this season without a single interception. His efficiency rating stands at 161.3, a testament to his ability to avoid costly mistakes. “Bad things are going to happen,” Fagnano stated. “It’s a next-play mentality. Just being able to go to the next play is the biggest thing.”
The impact of this win is profound not just for the team but for the entire UConn community, as excitement builds for their upcoming game against Duke at Rentschler Field on November 8. With Fagnano leading the charge, UConn is poised to continue its momentum in the coming weeks.
Fagnano’s journey has not been without challenges. Following four years at Maine, he has consistently improved under the guidance of various coaches, culminating in a standout season. “I’ve always been comfortable in the offense,” he remarked, emphasizing teamwork over individual accolades.
As the Huskies look ahead, the potential for a high-profile bowl game is becoming more tangible. UConn’s impressive performance at Fenway Park last year drew a crowd of 27,000, and fans are eager for more. The enthusiasm surrounding the team is palpable, especially as they continue to break barriers and achieve milestones.
“I would not write Joe off as a guy who will finish his career at UConn,” coach Jim Mora remarked earlier this year. “I think Joe is pretty special, there are some real qualities.” With his leadership and skill, Fagnano is not just shaping the future of UConn football but also proving that extraordinary performances can come from seemingly ordinary players.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on UConn and Fagnano as they strive to keep their winning streak alive and make a significant impact on college football.
