BREAKING: A devastating fire has claimed the lives of two individuals in Orange, New Jersey, on Thanksgiving Day. The inferno erupted around 5 p.m. at a residence on Mosswood Avenue, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Authorities from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office report that first responders arrived swiftly but tragically, the two victims inside the home were unable to escape. Neighbors are struggling to cope with the loss, as many were familiar with the victims.

Claire Stevens, a local resident, expressed her concerns: “My grandson was good friends with one of the young people that lived there. And she’s out of the country right now. And I’m just really concerned that maybe, you know, she doesn’t know about her relatives that live in the house that might have been affected by the fire.”

As the community rallies together, nearby residents were seen keeping warm inside a NJ Transit bus, providing temporary refuge from the cold. The American Red Cross has stepped in to assist, offering emergency financial support to a family of eight displaced by the flames, covering lodging, food, and other urgent needs.

Matthew Mehr, a neighbor, paid tribute to the victims, recalling their welcoming nature: “I just know that they kept their yard really nice, and whenever I would go for a walk or run, they were super friendly.”

As the investigation into the cause of the fire continues, officials have yet to release the identities of the deceased. The tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of life and the importance of community support during such devastating times.

Local authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to uncover the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident. The community is left to navigate its grief while supporting one another in the aftermath of this tragedy.
