Urgent: University of Delaware Student Arrested with Guns, Body Armor
UPDATE: A University of Delaware student has been arrested with multiple weapons, body armor, and alarming materials detailing plans related to the campus police department. Luqmaan Khan, a 25-year-old undergraduate, was taken into custody just before midnight on November 24, following a police check in Wilmington’s park area.
Authorities report that police observed Khan’s white Toyota Tacoma parked after hours. When approached, he allegedly refused to exit the vehicle and resisted arrest. A search of the Tacoma uncovered a loaded handgun, extended magazines, body armor, a laptop, and binoculars, raising serious concerns about his intentions.
The most disturbing find was a notebook containing detailed drawings and notes on warfare techniques, assault plans, and a diagram of the University of Delaware Police Department. This notebook specifically mentioned a member of the police department by name and featured a layout of the department’s building, including entry and exit points.
Following the arrest, federal authorities were notified and conducted a search of Khan’s home. They reportedly discovered another handgun equipped with an illegal “switch” that allows it to function as a machine gun. Khan now faces several felony weapons charges, including possession of a large capacity magazine and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He has been transferred to the custody of the FBI for further investigation and potential additional charges.
Interim University President Laura Carlson confirmed that Khan has been banned from all University of Delaware campuses as the investigation continues. This incident has raised significant concerns regarding campus safety and the potential for violence, prompting a thorough review of security measures.
As this situation develops, officials are urging students and staff to remain vigilant. The University of Delaware community is encouraged to report any suspicious behavior to campus authorities.
Stay tuned for updates on this urgent situation as more details emerge.
