UPDATE: A cold front sweeping through North Texas has plunged temperatures, leaving many areas facing frigid wind chills this morning. Reports confirm that early temperatures fell below freezing, with Possum Kingdom Lake recording a low of 29 degrees (F) and Dallas dipping to 34 degrees (F).

The harsh winds are exacerbating the chill, with wind chills dropping into the 20s, and some locations feeling like they are in the upper teens. This significant drop comes after a storm system brought scattered rain and thunderstorms across the region on Thursday, leaving some areas with more than an inch of rainfall while others remained dry.

As clouds linger throughout the day, travel impacts are expected across the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast, where rain is transitioning to sleet and snow, creating dangerous conditions. Meanwhile, an upper-level low over the Great Lakes is forecasted to continue bringing snowfall to that region.

Looking ahead, North Texas residents can expect a slight reprieve from the cold as temperatures are projected to rise above freezing on Monday. Forecasters indicate a southwest flow aloft may produce some isolated showers, with rain chances remaining low at about 20 to 30 percent.

The forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday is expected to be significantly calmer, with temperatures gradually warming back into the 50s by Tuesday and nearing 60 degrees (F) on Wednesday. However, another strong system is set to arrive on Thursday, increasing the likelihood of widespread rain and thunderstorms before conditions dry out again on Friday.

While the week will see fluctuations in temperature, the overall trend indicates more cold days ahead. The upcoming weekend promises to offer calmer weather and near-normal temperatures, allowing residents to enjoy a brief break from the frigid conditions.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing weather situation as forecasters closely monitor the changes.
