UPDATE: Shoppers in Clovis, California, flocked to local businesses on Small Business Saturday, creating a festive atmosphere reminiscent of a winter wonderland. Streets were bustling with eager customers hunting for holiday deals just hours ago, as community members rallied to support small businesses during this key shopping day.

Amid the joyful chaos, shopper Heather Martinez expressed her excitement about the unique finds available. “How beautiful is that, you can’t get that anywhere else,” she said, showcasing her antique purchase. Originally not planning to antique shop, she was captivated by the distinctive items on display. “I’ve always been here my entire life. This is my area; of course I’m going to support small businesses,” she added, emphasizing the importance of local commerce.

One standout business making waves is Frost Oak Creek Creations, owned by Tom Frost. “The holiday season accounts for about a third of our business for the year. It really starts picking up dramatically and stays busy right through Christmas,” Frost explained. His store offers rare items, including Charlie Bears and holiday decor, drawing shoppers eager for special gifts.

The excitement wasn’t limited to Clovis. Nearby, at Manchester Mall in central Fresno, local merchants echoed the same sentiment. “Big box stores treat you like just another number, but buying from a small business could mean you’re paying for someone’s meal,” said Lani, owner of Shake & Sip Lemonade Stand. Her words highlight the profound impact of supporting local enterprises.

While Small Business Saturday serves as a catalyst for community shopping, local businesses appreciate every customer throughout the year. The concerted effort by shoppers today not only boosts sales but fosters a sense of community and support that is vital to the local economy.

As the holiday shopping season intensifies, residents are encouraged to keep this momentum going. The impact of shopping small extends beyond mere transactions; it helps sustain the local economy, enrich community ties, and ensures unique offerings remain available.
