William S. Ditmer, Beloved Family Man, Passes Away at 80

UPDATE: William S. Ditmer, an adored father and friend, has tragically passed away at the age of 80 on Thanksgiving morning, November 27, 2025. His family and friends are mourning a vibrant life filled with love for bowling, football, classic cars, and music.

Born on October 16, 1945, in Carlisle, PA, Ditmer lived in West Philadelphia before relocating to Connecticut, where he spent his later years. He dedicated his career to Combustion Engineering, working in the logistics department until health issues began to take a toll.

Ditmer’s passion for life was evident in his involvement in multiple bowling leagues at Bradley Bowl, where he formed lasting friendships. His family remembers him as a devoted father to his son, John Ditmer, and grandfather to Brian Ditmer and Christina Eargle. He is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Ditmer, niece, Michelle Ditmer, and great-nephew, Jeffrey Ditmer. He was predeceased by his brother, John Arthur Ditmer, sister, Wendy Ditmer, and parents, Brig, Bernard, and Freda Ditmer (Malpass).

A memorial service to honor Ditmer’s life will be held on January 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Manchester Citadel Salvation Army Corps, located at 661 Main St, Manchester, CT. Family and friends are invited to gather and share their memories of this remarkable man. Following the memorial, burial will take place on January 12 at 11:00 AM at Kensico Cemetery, 273 Lakeview Ave, Valhalla, NY.

As the community reflects on Ditmer’s impact, many are encouraged to honor his memory with flowers or by planting a living memorial. His legacy of love and joy will continue to resonate through the lives he touched.
