Chargers RB Omarion Hampton Ruled Out for Raiders Game Sunday
UPDATE: The Los Angeles Chargers have officially ruled out running back Omarion Hampton for their game against the Las Vegas Raiders this Sunday at SoFi Stadium. The decision follows revelations earlier this week that Hampton suffered a fractured left ankle during the Chargers’ loss to the Washington Commanders in Week 5, ending speculation regarding the severity of his injury.
Hampton, who has been sidelined for several weeks, described his injury as a “freak thing,” confirming it was not just a sprain or strain, but a significant fracture. Coach Jim Harbaugh had previously anticipated that Hampton wouldn’t be cleared to practice until this week, and after limited practice in a yellow jersey, the team has decided to hold him out for Sunday’s matchup.
The Chargers (7-4) are facing a crucial game against the Raiders (2-9), who currently sit at the bottom of the playoff picture. With Hampton’s absence, the team looks to Kimani Vidal, who has stepped up as the leading back, rushing for a team-high 417 yards in Hampton’s absence. Vidal will be starting his seventh consecutive game on Sunday, as he continues to impress with his performance.
Hampton, who was leading the team with 314 yards before his injury, expressed confidence in Vidal’s abilities, stating, “He’s been doing amazing.” The Chargers are gearing up for a significant upcoming game against the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on December 8, making Hampton’s return even more critical to their playoff aspirations.
The rookie running back acknowledged the frustration of being sidelined but emphasized his determination to return stronger. “I feel like I haven’t reached my full potential yet,” Hampton said. His presence on the field is expected to add a new dynamic to the Chargers’ offense, as quarterback Justin Herbert noted, “He brings a different level of energy to our team.”
As the Chargers prepare for the Raiders, all eyes will be on Hampton’s recovery, with hopes that he will be ready for the critical game against the Eagles. Fans are eager to see how he will integrate back into the lineup alongside Vidal when he is cleared to play.
Stay tuned for more updates on Hampton’s recovery and the Chargers’ performance as they aim to secure a spot in the postseason.
