Urgent Weather Alert: 50 MPH Winds and Heavy Rain Hit NH Today
UPDATE: New Hampshire is bracing for a powerful weather system as gusts up to 50 mph are expected alongside heavy rain today. A wind advisory is in effect statewide from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., causing potential disruptions for travelers.
Heavy rain and strong winds are sweeping through New Hampshire this morning, with meteorologists warning residents to prepare for turbulent conditions. The storm, fueled by a surge of mild air, is projected to bring locally strong wind gusts by midday, particularly along the coast and in the White Mountains.
Scattered showers have already begun, with a narrow band of intense rainfall anticipated around 11 a.m. This downpour will coincide with the peak winds, creating hazardous travel conditions across the state. Officials urge motorists to exercise caution, especially between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., when the worst of the weather is expected.
As the storm moves on, temperatures are set to plummet sharply late Friday, shifting winds to a west-northwest direction. While this may help dry the roads and potentially prevent icy spots for the evening commute, drivers should remain vigilant for slippery conditions overnight.
Looking ahead to the weekend, New Hampshire residents can expect calmer weather. Saturday will bring fair skies and cooler temperatures in the 30s, with the possibility of strong wind gusts over the eastern slopes of the White Mountains. Sunday marks the first day of winter, with clouds and partial sun, plus a chance of spotty mixed or snow showers in northern areas.
