Jerry Jones Confirms Dallas Cowboys’ Trade Deadline Strategy
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has reiterated the team’s commitment to pursuing player trades ahead of the upcoming NFL trade deadline. This announcement follows the Cowboys’ disappointing 27-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on November 1, 2025, marking their second consecutive defeat at AT&T Stadium. With the team’s record now standing at 3-5-1, the urgency to enhance the roster has intensified as the trade deadline approaches.
Despite the recent setback, Jones emphasized that the defeat would not alter their strategy. “We still can, yes,” he stated. “Again. Stand by what I’ve said. Absolutely. We’ll see how tomorrow goes. Today was all about tomorrow. You shouldn’t do anything. You should wait and see what we do tomorrow.” This statement underscores the Cowboys’ determination to make impactful moves that could secure a playoff spot after missing the postseason last year.
Jones hinted earlier on the same day that the Cowboys might have already initiated a trade deal, although he did not disclose any details. He expressed the need to maintain a competitive edge in negotiations, stating, “I just don’t want another team, if I’m interested in completing [the trade], I don’t want another team to step in and get it.” His caution reflects the high-stakes environment of NFL trades, where discussions can shift rapidly.
The Cowboys are currently positioned second in the NFC East, trailing the Philadelphia Eagles, who hold a 6-2 record. As the playoff picture becomes clearer, the Cowboys find themselves needing to bridge a gap to re-enter wild-card contention. Recent performances have raised concerns, particularly regarding the team’s defense, which has struggled without standout player Micah Parsons. The pass rush has faltered, leaving the defense vulnerable and unable to generate consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
On the offensive side, Dak Prescott continues to lead the team with strong performances, supported by talented receivers such as CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. Additionally, running back Javonte Williams, an offseason acquisition, has contributed positively to the team’s dynamics. The Cowboys possess the ability to score effectively against rivals, but the recent defensive lapses have overshadowed their offensive capabilities.
As the trade deadline looms, Jones appears poised to make significant moves that could redefine the Cowboys’ season. A strategic acquisition could provide the necessary boost to shift the trajectory of the team, allowing them to reclaim a competitive stance in their division and the broader playoff race. With the deadline set for November 2, all eyes will be on the Cowboys to see how they navigate this critical moment in their season.
