Jets Trade All-Pro Sauce Gardner to Colts in Major Deal
The New York Jets executed a significant trade on November 4, 2025, sending All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts. In return, the Jets received two first-round draft picks and wide receiver AD Mitchell, according to multiple reports. This move comes just ahead of the NFL trade deadline and marks a pivotal moment for both franchises.
Drafted fourth overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, Gardner quickly established himself as one of the premier cornerbacks in the league. He signed a lucrative four-year extension worth $120.4 million with the Jets last offseason, reflecting his value. Over the past two seasons, Gardner earned Pro Bowl selections and was named a First-team All-Pro, showcasing his impact on the field.
As the trade news broke, Gardner took to social media to convey his sentiments. In a brief message, he wrote, “New York it’s been real,” capturing the emotional weight of his departure.
The Jets, currently struggling with a record of 1-7 following their bye week, are looking to the future. The acquisition of two first-round picks will provide them with valuable assets as they aim to rebuild ahead of the 2026 season. This trade allows the Jets to free up salary cap space, an essential step in their effort to revitalize the team.
In contrast, the Colts find themselves in a strong position. With a record of 7-2, they are coming off a disappointing loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers but remain one of the most surprising teams in the NFL this season. Under the leadership of head coach Shane Steichen, quarterback Daniel Jones has revitalized his career, and running back Jonathan Taylor has been a key contributor in the rushing attack.
The addition of Gardner is expected to bolster the Colts’ defense, solidifying their status as a legitimate championship contender. With strong performances throughout the season, the Colts are positioning themselves for a deep playoff run, and Gardner’s experience and talent could be the missing piece they need.
As both teams navigate this trade and its implications, the landscape of the NFL continues to shift dramatically. The Jets are clearly focused on the long-term, while the Colts are pushing for immediate success, making this trade one of the most notable moves of the season.
