Tesla Cybertruck Owners Discover Factory Defect Behind Mysterious Marks
Tesla Cybertruck owners were initially alarmed, believing they were victims of vandalism when peculiar marks appeared on their vehicles. However, investigations revealed that these marks were a result of a factory defect linked to the protective film used during manufacturing.
Earlier this year, a wave of vandalism against Tesla vehicles, particularly Cybertrucks, heightened concerns among owners. This context led to confusion when odd inscriptions emerged on their electric trucks. One Cybertruck owner shared a post in a Facebook group seeking advice on how to remove what he thought was hydrochromic paint, suspecting that his truck had been vandalized. “Any ideas how to remove a hydrochromic paint? Someone vandalized my truck. It only appears when wet,” he wrote, accompanied by images illustrating the issue.
As discussions unfolded, several other owners reported experiencing similar problems. Contrary to their fears, it became clear that the issue was not due to vandalism. Instead, it was linked to the factory’s protective film.
Christian Maciel, another Cybertruck owner, faced the same ordeal and took his vehicle to Tesla service for diagnosis. The technician’s report confirmed the widespread nature of the issue, noting that other owners had reported various initials, such as “MPS,” “BLT,” and “WC,” appearing on the B-pillar when wet.
The technician’s findings included a detailed examination of the driver-side B-pillar, verifying the presence of a persistent mark identified as ‘BVT.’ This mark, which only manifests when wet, was attributed to residue from the factory protective film. The report stated, “The issue was caused by residue left after the removal of the factory’s protective film.”
To rectify the problem, the technician replaced the left-hand B-pillar applique. The solution was validated by ensuring that the marks no longer appeared when the surface was wet. This incident highlights a significant concern for Tesla, which has encountered approximately a dozen safety recalls during the Cybertruck’s production since its inception two years ago. In addition to safety issues, Tesla has also faced numerous non-safety defects that necessitated large-scale servicing of the Cybertruck.
As the situation evolves, Tesla continues to address customer concerns related to the Cybertruck. The company remains a major player in the transportation and energy sectors, with a commitment to delivering quality vehicles.
