Longmont Residents Voice Concerns Over Airport Noise and Local Issues
Residents of Longmont are expressing growing concerns regarding the noise pollution caused by low-flying aircraft near Vance Brand Airport. On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, local citizens highlighted the broader implications of airport operations that affect the entire community, not just those living in close proximity.
Many residents are frustrated by the impact of flight schools based in neighboring areas. They argue that the noise from planes interrupt the peace in public spaces such as Rogers Grove and Golden Ponds. One local resident described their experience, stating, “I was looking forward to some nice, quiet family time, but there are currently five planes circling Vance Brand doing touch and goes.” The resident noted that the noise was audible even two and a half miles away from the airport, emphasizing that these flights are primarily conducted by schools located outside Longmont.
In response to these issues, locals are advocating for changes in airport operations. They suggest that limiting touch and go activities to normal business hours could alleviate some noise disturbances. Implementing a landing fee that increases during off-hours is proposed as a feasible solution to discourage excessive flight training during evenings and weekends.
Community Support and Food Donations Needed
In addition to airport-related concerns, residents are urged to support local charitable efforts. The OUR Center, a community food bank, is facing increased demand as many families are experiencing reduced food benefits and delayed paychecks due to the ongoing government shutdown. Local advocates are encouraging those who can afford to donate food or funds to do so, emphasizing that the center’s resources are becoming severely stretched.
As community engagement grows, some residents have also expressed interest in civic education. A suggestion was made for the local newspaper, the Times-Call, to publish the Constitution incrementally, allowing citizens to engage with the actual language of the document. This initiative aims to foster a clearer understanding of constitutional debates within the community.
Addressing Misinformation About Golf Course Operations
In recent discussions, some residents have raised questions about the financial operations of Longmont’s golf courses. A resident responded to claims suggesting that the golf facilities are a drain on taxpayer funds, clarifying that the courses are profitable and funded through user fees rather than public tax dollars. This information aims to counter misinformation circulating in the community.
As the local election approaches, issues such as airport noise and community support are likely to influence voter sentiment. Residents are encouraged to voice their opinions and participate actively in shaping the future of Longmont. As one resident noted, “Elections are coming, and I vote,” indicating a sense of urgency for addressing these pressing concerns.
The ongoing dialogue within Longmont underscores the importance of community involvement in addressing local issues and enhancing the quality of life for all residents.
