Massullo’s Cleaners & Tailors marked a significant milestone on March 15, 2024, by celebrating its 100th anniversary and receiving induction into the WV Centurion Chamber of Commerce. The ceremony took place at the company’s location on High Street in Morgantown, West Virginia, and was officiated by Kris Warner, the Secretary of State.

Warner, a long-time resident of Morgantown before relocating to Charleston, expressed his personal connection to the business. “My family and I have been customers for over 30 years. They took great care of me,” he remarked. Warner also highlighted how his five children, who served in the Civil Air Patrol and U.S. Air Force, frequently brought their uniforms to Massullo’s. He emphasized the staff’s expertise, stating, “They knew precisely where the badges and insignia belonged without being told.”

The history of Massullo’s began in 1925, when Italian immigrant Domenico Massullo and his wife, Raphael, founded Massullo’s Tailoring on Pleasant Street. Today, the business is owned by their granddaughter, Linda Cerone, who has continued the legacy alongside her late husband, Tony Cerone, and brother, Carl Massullo Jr.. After their passing, she persevered to keep the business thriving, expressing her gratitude to her dedicated team. “If it wasn’t for my crew, I couldn’t have done this myself,” she said.

The Centurion program, established by the Secretary of State’s office in 2019, recognizes businesses that have been operational for a century or more. Warner noted that this initiative is unique in the United States. “West Virginia Centurions are businesses that have withstood the test of time and numerous challenges, from world wars to pandemics,” he explained. “Massullo’s has excelled through it all, making significant contributions to the community.”

The anniversary celebration featured a variety of food and treats, creating a festive atmosphere for attendees. A commemorative cake was cut by Cerone and Warner, symbolizing the significant achievement. Warner presented Massullo’s with two Centurion plaques, one for the High Street location and another for their Suncrest Towne Centre pickup and drop-off service.

As Massullo’s Cleaners & Tailors embarks on its second century, it stands as a testament to resilience and community engagement in Morgantown. The legacy of the Massullo family continues to be interwoven with the fabric of local history.
